The challenge: People living in poverty and marginalized groups in low-income countries are among the hardest hit by the climate crisis, yet climate policy is often shaped by politicians, consultants, scientists, and corporate actors, with Global North perspectives dominating. Frontline communities, particularly in the Global South, are frequently excluded from decisions that affect their future. People-led movements help address these imbalances by amplifying local voices, holding power to account, promoting locally led solutions, and building global solidarity for climate justice.
Our solution: We support and strengthen inclusive, locally-led movements of communities, women, and youth advocating for climate justice, with a particular focus on underrepresented groups. Recognizing the growing risks faced by climate activists, we work to protect civic space and prioritize care, wellbeing, and feminist approaches. By partnering with activists and communities worldwide, we help build a diverse movement that amplifies local solutions and advances policies that support those most affected by the climate crisis while enabling a just transition to sustainable economies.
For example, the African Climate Caravan brings together grassroots movements and civil society organizations across Africa to advocate for climate justice and elevate the voices of affected communities. By sharing local realities and solutions, the initiative aims to influence climate policy and negotiations at national, regional, and global levels, helping ensure that frontline perspectives shape decision-making.
